This Friday, February 28th, The Morgan Block Artist Studios and Galleries will be open to the public from 5-8PM. This is a great chance to come see the artists working on their craft in the beautiful historic Morgan Block Building. Ron Pattern, Ben Mann, Marijo Martini, Cooper Lanza, Nicki Lang and myself, will open our doors and invite the public in.
The entrance to the building and stairs leading to the second and third floor is between Artwood and Good Earth Pottery, located at 1000 Harris. My studio is #6. My husband, also and artist, is in Room #3. We have acrylic paintings in many different sizes and prices, as well as greeting cards for sale. I also have my poetry books for sale: SALTWATER.
We are a collective of artists who manage the building, do work hours, and have monthly meetings. We also meet socially, enjoying each other’s company and inspiring each other. The building is part of the People’s Land Trust. The rent is reasonable because the Trust purchased the land in the 1970s. Sometimes rooms come available and a new member juries in. Currently there are no openings.
Some of the Morgan Block members teach classes. I teach writing and have regular writing practice groups. I also lead collage or Spirit Box making classes. These classes run between $25 & $65. The classes are a fun way to get to know people, to chat and relax.
Artist/author, Nancy Canyon, MFA, creates in a vintage art studio in Historic Fairhaven, 1000 Harris, #6. Her paintings , poems, and prose are widely published. Nancy works for The Narrative Project, guiding writers through a Nine Month Program designed to write their memoirs. She has written a memoir, STRUCK, detailing two summers working as a fire lookout in the Clearwater Ranger District, outside Grangeville, Idaho. Her novel, CELIA’S HEAVEN is available June 2020.
