“Star sat on the edge of Celia’s bed watching Johnny pull on his pants. Oh, how she’d obsessed over him while dusting the aisles of organic peas and honey granola. At the same time she was going boy crazy, she also realized that anyone could walk through walls if they tried. So when a customer wasn’t waiting to be checked out, Star flattened her cells and slipped through the lath and plaster next to the cash resgiter, weaving between the molecules of the message-studded bullentin board, passing shelves laden with nasty smelling dried herbs her boss kept in gallon jars, to arrive in cold storage where tofu and raw milk sat in stacked crates and organic vegetables crowded wooden bins. That was where she hovered, taking in the shimmering light emanating from sweet potatoes and peppers, their beauty mesmerizing and somehow enlivening. After the adventure, she returned to the checkout stand and helped a customer purchase a jar of Miracle Energy.” Excerpt from Celia’s Heaven, pg. 81.
