Thursday, November 6th, at 6PM, Voxel Gallery opens a beautiful new show featuring images of Winter and Myth by nine women. Thanks, Christine, for choosing my piece “Winter Morning,” to be part of the show. One frosty winter I walked the path through Whatcom Falls park and snapped a few shots of the icy landscape. This piece is unusual for me, in that it is painted on board with a primer brushed on with wide strokes. You can see the brushwork beneath the imagery. It worked to enhance the drama of the sky. And it feels chilly. the image is actually a little bluer than how it reads above.
When I think of winter, I think of snow. Bellingham gets snow, but not like the snow I experienced growing up in Spokane. Winter was playtime: skating on Audubon Park’s frozen parking lot and sledding at Manito Park of Indian Canyon Golf Course. We skated on lumpy frozen lakes and ice fished on freezing cold days. Cross-country skiing was one of my favorite sports and still is.
I hope you will come out this Thursday the 6th, for a lovely Opening. Christine always does it up nicely, so enjoy yourself, meet the artists, and drink in the art.
