Nancy Canyon, Artist/Writer

Mossy Alder
Mossy Alder, by Nancy Canyon

Nancy Canyon’s acrylic paintings depict natural elements witnessed on walks and hikes in the mountains, along rivers, beside the pond, and in the garden. She loves the mirrored patterns reflected on water. “Reflected trees, reeds, leaves, flowers, and clouds marble the surface, undulating and smoothing in unique patterns. I didn’t grow up in the Pacific Northwest. My hometown, Spokane, has great rivers and lakes, but when I lived there, it was the Palouse that drew me. Also an undulating landscape—a quality in nature that I like to create from. Here, it’s the water that moves, reflecting the sky. But, I’m particularly enchanted by the lilies. As of late, I’ve painted around 30 or so lily paintings. I peruse them on my daily walks, noting how they change through the seasons. So unblemished with shades of violet and rust when new and yellow and crumpled with age.”

Ron Pattern, Artist

“A painter needs to approach the world with childlike curiosity and sensory awareness.  Then the fleeting glimpses and dramatic moments in time get recorded vividly in the mind.  I go out into my local environment daily and become entranced by the drama of light and shadow, the tension of texture, line, and form.  I bring this back to my studio as a primary influence for my paintings.” ~ Ron Pattern

Currently, Ron Pattern paints in acrylic on canvas or panel in his Historic Fairhaven studio. He has been a member of the Morgan Block Galleries and Studios, 1000 Harris, #3, for the past three years. He has been painting since childhood.
